You know who you are.

Yesterday I asked you to read a beautiful story about a breast cancer survivor and new friend named Sonia. At the risk of repeating myself in two places, you can read the followup here...

I do believe that human beings make the best angels, and so you know who you are.

Thank you.

Busy Bee

Yes, more bees.

***

I can't help it. It's just so gratifying when you get a good bee shot. They are very difficult models. Plus, I practically have to stick my camera up their little bee bottoms to get these photos. This bee must have been humoring me.

For lack of a better metaphor, I'm going to bee busy this weekend. I'll be over with Lisa and Rachel at Help A Mother Out (HAMO) as they sort through bins of donated clothing, diapers and toiletries. And for those of you who want a K and the kids update, they will be joining us to help and play with the other kids, too. (I'll tell them you said hello. No apartment yet, but we're working on it, everyone is doing okay and I'll be keeping you updated.)

I met Lisa and Rachel when the story about K and the kids first started. They've been enthusiastic and stalwart supporters of my story but what they're doing to help mothers in need STATEWIDE is even more incredible. (And they just got a shout-out on Craig of Craigslist fame's blog yesterday.)

Lisa and Rachel are two young mothers with young kids who are making a tremendous difference in the lives of mothers and children who have been affected by these difficult economic times. Won't you read a bit more about them here?

About their diaper drive, which has been a huge success. But will always be needed and ongoing.
About the organizations they work with.

Thanks again, and I hope you all do something you enjoy this weekend. And one last plug and BIG thank you to Adam for the podcast we did last Sunday. If you didn't get to listen to it, I hope you will, and thank you to those who already have!
(I've cleverly put it at the bottom of this post, just in case.)

just another straight white girl for gay marriage

It felt good to get out on the streets and be with lots and lots and lots of other people who know that you can't legislate love, you can't legislate what a family is, and that separate is not fucking equal.

My feet hurt (we walked a lot), my back is sore (ditto), but my heart feels better.

This proposition is going to get turned around. Maybe not tomorrow, or the next day. But it will.
The hateful dinosaurs will be extinct soon. Their day in the sun is ENDING.

More later... it took forever to get home. Let's say public transportation was not running the way it should tonight.

Prop 8 was upheld. I wish I could say I was surprised (sadly, I'm not) but I can't say that I don't have a stomach ache now. Because I do. This is pathetic.

Fucking pathetic.

But in their infinite wisdom, our state Supreme Court judges are allowing the marriages that have already taken place to stand. How can they rule on both sides of the issue like that? It makes absolutely no sense at all.

Let's chalk another one up for the Mormon Church and fanatical religious zealots all over. I'm so disgusted right now. I just don't have anything else to say.

Go to Courage Campaign and do what you can. If other states can have equal marriage rights, why can't California?

Inauguration Morning in San Francisco

This morning. San Francisco's beautiful City Hall in the early morning light.

As the crowd grew larger behind us, spreading out to the sides, everyone so full of anticipation.

And then it was his moment. Our moment.

Finally. Finally.

Finally.

I can't say more than what you already feel inside, so we can just enjoy the feelings together.

One thing that was wonderful and creative and perfect to share was this, though. People inscribing their wishes and hopes for our new president.

1000 Origami Peace Cranes on canvas.

Up close, you could not make out the image as easily.

I got a chance to make my small mark on a spot of canvas.

And then the moment had arrived.

The canvas was turned and uplifted.
