Okay, that was crazy.

Yeah, that was crazy.

Human bumper cars + pro wrestling + cat fights = roller derby

***

Well, now I can check that off the list of things I've seen.

Most of the fighting photos were blurry but I think you probably get the idea.

You can tell these gals are hamming it up, but still you wouldn't want to pick a fight with one of them. They could flip you. Big time.

And one of the referees was pretty hot.

Is it just me or does she have glitter in her cleavage?

***

I kind of feel like I should be eating chunks of raw meat or watching Xanadu right now.

Or both.

Boy, gone are the days of the Aloha Roller Palace in San Jose, California.

*sigh*

I have a dear friend who is a roller derby girl in Cleveland.

Burning River Roller Girls.

She is on the Team, Cleveland Steamers. I must get to one of her events and snap some photos. Maybe get backstage and get some photos of how they get ready.

Hey, its not an art restoration photo shoot, but hey, you never know!

The Cleveland Steamers? Really? I am almost speechless. Almost. And oh, the days of Xanadu, the first HBO movie I remember watching. That Gibbs fellow's tight pants, man, the Saturday afternoons I spent at the roller rink hoping he would come in and sweep me off my feet!

Wow, a trip down memory lane. I, too, grew up with the Bay Area Bombers. Joan Weston, was of course my fav. :-) Kezar Pavilion with my Dad. Loved getting the pink popcorn there.

Oh my...Xanadu. Guys dancing in Mr Rogers sweaters and ties...and those disco dresses for the ladies...made me smile and want to go put glitter on my cleavage...

When I found out my grandmother had been a roller derby girl, it completely changed my idea about her. Round, white-haired Beulah with the Jewish nose and the loud laugh and the polyester shirts? But then I figured out that her team probably didn't wear the hot pants and ripped fishnets I'd seen pictures of on some modern teams, and it made a little more sense. Still: tough lady!

I haven't seen any roller derby in AGES! how fun....and yes, it's glitter.

Roller Derby is slowly making a comeback...there are teams all over the South and Southwest..the only problem is that they all look 2nd class, kind of like the short-lived XFL and the NFL. But its still fun.

Check out "Kansas City Bomber" starring Raquel Welch. It came
out in 1972. Talk about going
down memory lane.

Oh, yes, definite cleavage glitter. I wonder where else she puts it? NO! Scratch that. Really! Scratch that.

I actually tried roller derby, and from what I've seen, more injuries are scored than points. not for the faint at heart

It would only be better if they stripped to bikinis and finished it off with a big wrestle off in a pit of mud in the center of the track!

And it is not glitter it is broken glass shards she stuck on there to show how tough she is!

Wow. That ref looks like a severely abused version of Catherine O'Hara. With glitter.
