I think I'm really glad I did this...

I just totally redesigned my entire photography website.

So... I think I'm glad I've been sitting here on my bum for hours. I think.

Would you do me a favor and check out the site? See what you think? I have to go to bed and I'm tired of looking at it any more tonight.

I changed the music. I restructured the whole thing so now it flows better and has more information. Or at least, that's my hope.

I guess since I'm always asking you to do me a favor or whatnot, that to bribe you for suggestions, comments (constructive criticism is welcome but snarky comments will be deleted--not that any of you would ever do that), and impressions, that I'll have a drawing amongst the commenters at the end of the day on Monday. How does that sound?

I have a lovely set of postcard prints of San Francisco images that I'll send to the lucky winner. So check out the site, send it to your pals, leave a comment and maybe I'll send you a goodie.Click on the logo to see the new site.

Thanks!

xoxo

Your website is really, really beautiful, both the content and the layout. Amazing. Impressive. What else could I say? Just one tiny little thing that I noticed: The left edge of the first letter gets cut off a bit in longer menu items when they are highlighted. Apart from that it's perfect! :)

Greetings,

Very nice! Just when I think that you have taken the best shot ever, you come up with a new one. I have been following you at Flickr when I don't have time to visit here.

About the web site: easy to navigate, clean graphics, wonderful photography. Hope that you receive MANY commissions!

Julie - I love it, and love the fact that you will be adding a place for people to purchase photos. It's very easy to move through, very user friendly, and very relaxing to just sit & visit with your images. Good job.

I think what you've done is amazing. The music is moving, your photography is outstanding and I love that there will be a spot for purchasing your work! I hope you are as happy with it today after spending so much time on it!

Your new website looks wonderful! Your pictures always make me want to come back to SF. While my husband and I saw so much in 6 days when we visited, I know there is still so so much more to see. Your photos show a little bit more, and really, I'm jealous that you live there! And I'm jealous of the people you feature in I Live Here: SF. The way everyone talks about SF and how much they love it is so inspiring!

TB,

It looks really good. For me, the Bella design (or other designs) looks better. The samples of your works, which are amazing, could be more prominently displayed. With Sumner, the left side takes too much white space and fights for attention with the pictures. Just my two cents. :-)

The design loads fast, is easy to navigate and is very clean. I like white, but it is almost too white...stark even. Maybe a small border or flourish or something is in order to draw me to the center otherwise I expand out looking to make sure I have everything if that makes sense.

I love your music, but I also know on some sites I go to I do not and I hate getting hijacked by music especially when I may have forgotten my speakers were turned up way loud. What I am saying is if you are going to have music load with your site you should make sure it is as clear as possible how to stop the music. Your music controls do not make that clear enough. You should also include some text to point those who are not familiar with the buttons to how they can disable the music. Make sure you limit the number of loops it plays through just in case someone still cannot figure it out they do not get driven crazy by the music in case they do not like it. OK that is my two cents worth..good job Tango

It is a nice, clean design. I love the expandable menu. Some of the menu items get cut off on the left side when they are selected, though.

I am not a big fan of auto-playing music. I have my speakers turned off, but one rule of web design is that if people get surprised by the music and don't want it playing (they are at work, they have their speakers turned up loud, etc.) their first reaction is to make the music stop--and the easiest way to do that is to close your page. So if there is a way to make the player load but not turn on automatically, that is highly suggested.

On the "Your Photo Shoot" page, I would suggest adding contact information. I know you have a contact page, but you want to make it as simple as possible for people to reach you (even if it's just a link under the text that takes them to your contact page). You may also want to consider more action-oriented language, i.e. "Contact me today about ..." rather than "Please let me know if I can ..."

On a design note, it would be awesome if the submenu item that was selected had some design piece that drew attention to the photo--I am envisioning some kind of red line or flourish that is drawn from the item selected in the menu toward the photo. (Then again, that might not work with the different sized photos. It's just a thought!) Also, I would like to see some space above the photos on the page. I keep trying to scroll up, thinking that the top of the photo is getting cut off.

I hope some of that is helpful! They are just my initial thoughts and suggestions, so feel free to blow them off! ;)

I like the clean design. The site loaded very quickly on my computer but I was wondering if it might be too much flash (?) for people with older/slower systems? I don't know what, if anything, you can do about that but it's something to consider since you want to bring business as well as fans to your site. Personally, I would not have the music; I always have my speakers turned oft. A lot of people don't like music on sites and I think it can make the site load more slowly on older computers.
Now, what I want if I win the contest is to be allowed to take YOU to lunch. It would be my treat to be allowed to treat you as your site is such a daily delight.

This is so clean and wonderful! I love everything about it. The flow of the image changes, the simple direct feeling of it all, it's great!

not a designer here, just a plain 'ole country boy, but I really like the looks and feel. You don't owe anyone a "prize". Letting us visit is the real prize. thankx,,glenn

It's a beautiful space. Minimalist in every way, which personally I like. Where have you listed the music credit?

I was thinking, since you are doing makeup for portraits you shoot (or offering), you may want to add a page on prepping for and what to expect of a portrait shoot - I've found good info here:

I love your site. I especially love how under the portraits tab you have "little people" and "big people".What I love the most, though, is that you are modest in your website if that makes any sense. It isn't flashy or busy it's just honest and simple which is what attracted me the most. Even though I dislike getting my picture taken I would love to live in SF and get my picture taken by you, I think it would be very amazing.
