Johanna Made Me Do It

This is a close runner-up to the tragedy posted on Alex's blog recently.

Johanna sent this to me today at work. I think we have to give her a lot of credit for finding it first.

My hives are starting to go away now, just in time for Ney and Jennifer's class at La Pista.

Oh, I can only hope that Ney and Jennifer are even a teeny tiny bit as good as the people in this video clip!

I couldn't help myself, tangobaby. I just had to post about it too :-)

Can you say

OY!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Thanks Johanna and Tangobaby!!! OMG... I so needed a good laugh this morning. The move where she had her legs wrapped around the guy was my favorite. ; )

GAAAAAAAAAAH!! And before my morning coffee! ;-)

Danzarin September 21, 2007 at 12:21 PM

hahahahahahahahahahah!
This is one of the most tragicomic tango performances I ahve ever seen. I agree with Eva. That move where he jumps on the guy like jumping on a donkey, with her toes separated! My god!
Priceless!

Johanna,

Not only can I say Oy, I say Oy Vey!

Eva and Danzarin,

I am torn between that move and the one where she puts her leg on the guy's shoulder and he drags her across the floor.

We should probably thank them for giving us such a good laugh.

Oh, oh, my eyes!
People, it gets even more disturbing when you look at the other videos from the youtube user. This guy has his own dance school, and he teaches TANGO there!
Ouch. Watch out for his students at your local milongas!
Quite scary.

You guys have GOT to be kidding? This is a TEACHER?!!

wtf?!!!

I dare someone to take his class...is it in Italy? Let's have TINA go and give us a secret spy report!

Tina, are you out there?

The profile says Brazil. If they were some amateurs decided to imitate the Argentine Tango from a video, and perform for their families and friends, that's one thing. But this dude teaches. That poor little lady on stage, bless her soul, is apparently a student. There are videos from workshops in there! A nightmare...

What do you think of this one?

I was at this event, but I didn't arrive until after this dance. I looked it up on YouTube because one of my teachers said he'd been there and deliberately gone away to get food because the way this couple dance upsets him so much. Of course I was so curious I had to go and look. It's nothing like as bad as what you've just shown me (ow), but I can see why my teacher would take it personally.

sorry eleanor, couldn't get past the purple tent...

Anonymous September 23, 2007 at 10:17 AM

I was just thinking, I'm sure the stage wasn't purple ... Oh, the dress! It is a little surprising. With that and the shades, as well as the knees, it seems to me that they're really aiming for a sort of jazz or even swing thing, and just upsetting people by calling it tango.

tangobaby September 23, 2007 at 6:51 PM

Eleanor,

Had I seen your clip first, I am sure the "purple tent" and sloppy ochos would have been more distressing to me.

However, I've been so completely scarred by this other couple that I think I may now be immune to many other bad tango routines. It is possible now that I might even be able to watch Condoleeza Rice speak for a few moments before starting to break into a cold sweat.

This tango clip is giving me some sort of strange immunity to fright. Now, if something is disturbing to me, I can think, "Well, it's not as bad as that tango video that Johanna made me watch."

Although I do have to admit that I feel very sorry for the poor student and it was horrible of her teacher to expose her to the world like that!

Ah... So horrid video from Johanna is mixed blessing, yes?

lalaland September 25, 2007 at 9:24 PM

Guess who, Tangobaby! Li'l sis is an official blogger...
Firstly, you should have prefaced the video clip by stating that if a person who delivered a nine pound baby and still has occasional accidental urination were to view this, they would want to take precautions. I laughed so hard I now need to shower.
Secondly, this was seriously worse than me dancing into the orchestra pit during Sondheim's A Little Night Music. I loved how wild the crowd went for each flexed foot and slug slide. I know live performances don't translate well to video, but it was almost as though the audience could have been reacting to a perfomance on an adjacent stage.
I loved that the alextangofuengo class video was from Chico High! Since that's where the hubby went to school, he'll love this video!
Glad to finally be on the blog, Sis! Love your lashes; can't believe I didn't get those...

Johanna,

You know we love the clip! We just have to pretend like it's killing us, first.

Lalaland!

Perfect name, my child.

I am glad you tuned in! I love YOU! See, now everyone on the internets knows it, too.

The lady in the purple dress is the teacher. The man is her student.

What is it with these TEACHERS and such questionable taste?????!!!!!
