Seriously, you guys are going to get me fired.

First of all, I want to say helllloooooooo to all of you new visitors to tangobaby via Blogs of Note.

I love you all. I'm totally blown away that you're here.

Secondly, I am guessing that this shout-out from Blogger is randomly generated (although I am super grateful all the same) because I don't know what I've done of late to be noteworthy. A year and a half ago, I didn't even know what a blog was. But don't get me wrong, this is cool! Thank you!

Thirdly, I hope you'll come back to visit me again and not just this one time and I'll try to visit you all and not be some sort of blog diva who is stuck up and snobbish.

But fourthly, I am probably going to get fired because of this. I seriously have not done any work today and have been totally distracted and just sent a co-worker out to buy me a BLT just so I could write this post.

***

I have some questions about my being discovered (which is funny since I just wrote something about Lana Turner a few days ago--is this the blog equivalent of being a Sweater Girl? Probably not. I don't think I get to quit my day job). Up until this morning, I was just minding my own little bloggy business and cajoling my friends into looking at my photography on flickr and JPG.

Is there some sort of blog guru who selects us? To whom do I say thank you?

Can I quit my day job now? Does this mean I am an expert at something?

Am I going to have to start moderating comments because now I'm going to get all of these spam comments about erectile dysfunction? I would really hate to do that.

***

Just so you know a few things:

I love my little blog. But it's very very random, even to me. If you can make sense out of the myriad brain stuff here, then I applaud you. I just read over my whole list of tags and I'm covering a lot of bases in a very shallow manner. Although if you love old films (especially noir and silents), dance (especially Argentine tango), San Francisco, photography, eating yummy food until you have to unbutton your pants, quoting Monty Python, Dorothy Parker and Carl Sagan, keeping your passport in your wallet just in case and then once in a while having a philosophical moment, then I think we'll get along just fine.

And swearing. Sometimes I swear.

***

I am having a hard time keeping up with the comments (and was even before this explosion of attention) so please be patient with me (I'm older than you think) and just know that I am thrilled you're here even if you think you hear the crickets chirping on my end. I'll try to write back. I just have to not get fired from my day job until I get a call from my new agent.

Thanks for making my day. Now I don't hate my outfit as much.

xoxo

ps.: If you are a new reader here, then I should tell you that I never have a movie reference on the blog just willy-nilly. There are too many good movies that people don't know about and I'm just doing my share to be bossy and make sure that you see them.

Above is a photo for the noir Fallen Angel, which is a great flick and Linda Darnell is H-O-T. Hot hot hot and so is Dana Andrews. So rent it.

Congrats on the blog of note. I never click on that thing on my blog dashboard and thought... what the hey... it's there... click it. I clicked it and here I am... visiting your blog. Don't let the boss catch you; and if he does tell him or her of your celebrity status here in the blogger world and tell him or her if he or she can't show you a better blog then he or she best step back and let you have your day... or give you a raise. Have a great day!

Mr. Berryman December 11, 2008 at 2:05 PM

same as Baitlady above...clicked on Blogs of Note and here I am. Definitely enjoying your blog so far...I'll have to catch up on your older posts this weekend...but enjoying what I have read so far. I also looked through all the images on your photo website...fantastic eye! Also, love the colors. Just started my own blog for photography students at the high school that I teach. I agree...it can take over some times!!

The Rambler December 11, 2008 at 2:24 PM

Congrats. I really enjoy your blog and will be parusing (is that how you spell that? :) through more posts.

You got me at eating yummy food til you pop open your pants and San Fran. A local girl from HI who has some family that made your city home.

willow December 11, 2008 at 2:43 PM

Hey, congratulations!! You are the second blog on my blogroll to be chosen for a blog of note!! Be prepared for a storm of visitors! It's too, too exciting! :)

Dubtak December 11, 2008 at 2:57 PM

I am completely guilty of only discovering you through blog of note, yet I am very much impressed with your photography, San Franciscosisty, Noiritude, and Monty Pythonibles. Apparently this mystical, magical blogging guru has good taste. Good tidings and hope the blog goes well even after this sudden influx.

Very good.
You blog is good.
I am argentinian.
My blog is:

Natasha December 11, 2008 at 3:27 PM

Like Sarandi I thought your blog might have something to do with Argentina (I <3 Buenos Aires) and then I found out it was about San Francisco, another awesome city I have not visited nearly enough. Or, well, actually at all in,like, the past,uh, five years.

Moving right along... congrats on the blog of note thing. My theory is that they have a room of monkeys and typewriters that select the blogs. Or was that the hamlet thing? I'm confused...

Ditto most of the above, minus argentina. No need to reply or visit (my site MAY be a cure for insomnia however).

ash22 December 11, 2008 at 4:52 PM

Hello

I have to say I love your blog, and the Argentine Tango :-) although I have never done it on the floor, only in ice dancing! I wonder how different they are...

Anyways, happy blogging!

Came to see you via "the Blog of Note" many more will come believe me! Love your site & I'll return I'm sure. I was born in SF, a block over from Haight.

Octavine Illustration December 11, 2008 at 6:32 PM

congratulations!~ but i don't need anyone to tell me what a great blogger you are. i already knew. but i'm glad now everyone else knows too. even if that makes me not as special. kinda like when you have a favorite new band that you feel like you own because you discovered them all by yourself and then a few months later you hear them on the radio. that's how good you are. like my favorite band. but in the blogosphere. anyway. congratulations my dear dear tango baby.

NFL Classifieds December 11, 2008 at 7:27 PM

Can't say why or how you were chosen. But I can and will say it was a good choice, and that I like your writing style. Hmmm? Maybe that's why you were chosen? :) ~ NFL Classifieds

the7msn December 11, 2008 at 7:55 PM

I don't think it was a random choice. There's good stuff over here. Except now I'm going to be humming that stupid Cuervo Gold song for the rest of the night.

P December 11, 2008 at 8:03 PM

I think the only requirement is fabulousness. And you have that in SPADES, baby.

Genna December 11, 2008 at 8:07 PM

OMG, I think I have found the best blog ever! I am so glad that you were the blog of note. All the blogs are cool, but finding one that is so fine tuned to my interests is just like hitting the lottery. I can't wait to read more.

missy December 11, 2008 at 8:12 PM

congrat on the blog of note!!!!
i will be back to check things out!!!

Bill Stankus December 11, 2008 at 8:15 PM

A travesty I tell you! Just because you live in SF (one of the best cities in the US) and tango (one of the best dances) and you like film noir (one of the best film genres) and you take really nice photos (yes, I know, Ansel Adams got his start in SF) ... doesn’t mean you should bribe, yes I said BRIBE the blog judges with tasty-creative-light and airy blogs to get noticed. Did I mention you also make terrific holiday menus? Well, of course you do!

Anyway, just stop it will you!!

GABI December 11, 2008 at 8:17 PM

ur blog sound interesting

Relyn December 11, 2008 at 8:21 PM

Oh my gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am gone for a day or two (out sick. really sick) and look what happens! I am SO EXCITED for you. Love you, my deserving, wonder blogger of a friend.

Trudi December 11, 2008 at 8:22 PM

Just so you know - Blogs of note has just made you a victim of my blog-stalking. Wait...do stalkers leave comments? Anyway, Congratulations. Great blog, great writing, great pictures, great boy and you have a job. Your dang near perfect.

ShakTara December 11, 2008 at 8:30 PM

I am also new to blogging, but from what I've seen so far, I really like your blog! Congrats on the blog of note, of course, that's why I;m here...Good luck with the blogging.

Pearls Of Wisdom, LLC December 11, 2008 at 8:59 PM

Congrats on being the BLOG OF NOTE! Must be kind of cool...sort of like winning the million dollar lottery...sort of...I guess.
I haven't done either, but maybe someday I will awaken to be pleasantly surprised by one or the other. Or maybe both. Until such time, CONGRATS, again, and I will surely be stopping by more often:D

Max-e December 11, 2008 at 9:11 PM

Hi Tangobaby, congratulations to you too and thanks for the visit and your comments. All I can say about being a blog of note at this stage is that I am glad not everyone who visited left a comment. I had over 10,000 hits in two days. I am sure it will taper off though. Anyway it has put me in contact with a new group of bloogers. As for the comments, I am going respond at my leisure.

My {S.T.U.F.F.} :: December 11, 2008 at 9:13 PM

Here's another congratulation on being the BLOG OF NOTE. I agree with Pearls... it has to be like winning the lottery or something. One minute your life is normal and the next your inundated with comments to moderate. That must be 'way cool':D
I {luv} the blog and your flickr photos. I know that I'll be back...often.:D

sonorossa December 11, 2008 at 9:19 PM

Congratulations on your BoN! I, too, live in San Francisco, and I, too, swear a lot. Our Venn diagrams are overlapping already.

miles December 11, 2008 at 9:27 PM

Well played, madame. Congratulations. I just started blogging and suck at it. But it's people like you that give me hope that it could be me on that podium one day!
Enjoy your blog. Will be back.

Sue December 11, 2008 at 11:14 PM

Just popped by after seeing you as a blog of note this morning. I love traveling and photography (although very much an amature), so it's always fun to see new places (never been to the States) and to check out what other people are doing with their cameras (my pictures are mostly of my kid). Will be visiting again soon - nice to meet you!!

You're lucky to live in San Francisco. Nice blog.

Jenny December 12, 2008 at 1:18 AM

hi i also want to blog...but how????

Paul Buckle December 12, 2008 at 1:32 AM

Congrats on your blog of note. I have often wondered the same thing about for selection. My personal theory is that they have a team of incredibly intelligent 8 year olds scanning their webservers. Or it could be random?!

Keep up the good work.

Terrebel December 12, 2008 at 1:51 AM

So you're from San Fransisco? I was there years ago. For five hours. Would love to come back there one day 'cause I didn't get much to see or do in that time from 3 to 8AM. And perhaps you didn't know but blogs can also be written from computers at home so you don't have to use the computer at work! Just a tip...;-)

Driftwood December 12, 2008 at 2:44 AM

My family's from San Fransisco, haven't been there myself though. I hope to later this year though!

TheElementary December 12, 2008 at 3:42 AM

Oh. I'm over the moon seeing this news. However it is chosen, you are so, so deserving of the attention.
I'll tell you, even Mater is thrilled for you today- this is wonderful. Well done :)

SearchingSoul December 12, 2008 at 4:49 AM

Congratulations for being chosen as Blog of Note. I wish I will also be chosen one of these days.
:-)

beckiwithani December 12, 2008 at 5:17 AM

I have a friend who works for google, and I know from her that Blogs of Note come from google workers who have found cool blogs (or have been informed of a cool blog by a friend).

So it is a true honor ... these people must see thousands of blogs a year ... and it takes a lot for them to say, "Wow!" Congrats!

Congrats! Stumbled like so many others after checking Blogs of Note!

Indeed it is an interesting Blog! Like the way you write!

Mimi December 12, 2008 at 6:09 AM

This is very interesting... I like that you mention Carl Sagan as someone you quote. I am a science geek and am secretly in love with him.

paris parfait December 12, 2008 at 6:13 AM

I see the spammers have found your comments section, now that you're getting some much-deserved recognition. Have missed you! I didn't phone you from the US, as I didn't have access to a phone (J has only a cellphone, which she had with her at work). Am still feeling lousy w/ this flu bug, but am cheered by your blog! And last night I watched a 1935 film featuring gangsters and a little girl called Gloria - the French translation of the film's title was wrong. Do you know the one I mean? xoxox

Jon Bratton December 12, 2008 at 6:14 AM

I was a blog of note virgin but now that I've been deflowered...thank you... I will become a blog of note slut

Hi
I just read this last post and I already love the idea of following your blog. I'm from Portugal and reading what you write will be a great exercise. I love photography, dancing, travelling and "blogging". Do I need anymore reasons to come back? I will. Love Rosa

Raggmunk December 12, 2008 at 6:51 AM

Nice! =)

Bebe December 12, 2008 at 6:54 AM

Just found your blog--surprise!!! You have a fun writing style--I enjoyed it last night and again this morning. Keep it up!

A Cuban In London December 12, 2008 at 7:05 AM

Well done, but now you will have to look out for spams, too. You have quite a lot on this post alreay. Keep it up!

Greetings from London.

Iasa December 12, 2008 at 9:28 AM

Glad I checked the Blogs of Note today. I never do that. Added your blog to my reader feed, so now you can distract me from work as well.

The AmyK December 12, 2008 at 9:36 AM

Glad I ran into you on the blog of note. If there is anything grand and wonderful in the world, it's getting to piddle away some of the boss' time on the ol' blogaroo. I look forward to keeping up with the west coast and all of it's yummyness Vicariously through you. I'm sure I will enjoy it very much.

Lamy December 12, 2008 at 9:58 AM

hahaha It was really amusing to read your post today. I was just trying to imagine you writting this post during the working day and I couldn't stop smiling. Congratulations!

~K December 12, 2008 at 10:05 AM

Your Photography of SF brings back so many memories. I used to work there on 525 Market Street. I also worked up in the Diamond Heights area. I miss the city. I was there during Lome Prieta as well. The Composition, lighting, quality and focus of your photos are simply brilliant. You should be selling them in a gallery if you are not already.

Thank you for sharing!

Sandra December 12, 2008 at 6:53 PM

I occasionally look at blogs of note, so I found you. I'm glad I did, but I don't EVER want this kind of pressure. The small, small, very small following I have freaks me out daily. I'd have to quit. I am boring and provincial, so hopefully I'll stay anonymous. On the other hand, you are interesting. Congratulations.

Marisa December 15, 2008 at 1:33 PM

I found you from blogs of interest also. I hope you dont get fired and since I have ADHD your blogs make perfect sence to me :)

robinbird December 15, 2008 at 11:19 PM

Adam December 18, 2008 at 11:52 AM

Now that I am stuck at the bottom of the long line of comments, I figured I would drop a line anyway. I enjoy reading new blogs, and today I was supposed to be cleaning my condo when I decided to procrastinate, and through that blogs of note icon I found this gem. I subscribe to tons of blogs, because I am a voyeur. Not those creepy ones with a 10x zoom and live across the way in an adjacent building. I just like reading what life is like through other people's eyes.

From one blogger to another, congratulations on the notoriety and just to let you know. I am a technology junkie and not only have I added you to my blogger list, but also added your blog to my VIIGO account on my BlackBerry so I can read and enjoy your blog while bored at work or out and about and seem to find a few minutes.

Take care.
