Come On, It's My Treat

I think it might have been a bit of a week. I don't know exactly what kind of week, so I'll just be vague.

I know a lot of you have been sad, felt overwhelmed (baby on the way, work overload, missing loved ones, political slime, and other stuff we can only guess at), sick at home with sore throats and sneezes.

And some of you have things to celebrate: getting into nursing school (GO SARAH!), sending the little one off to kindergarten, making a new friend, starting an etsy store.

For all of those things and more, I'd like to take you to what might be my new favorite place in the city: Bombay Bazaar on Valencia Street.

What you see here is the best ice cream in town (they make it in their shop), with flavors that encourage dreaming: rose, saffron rose, almond saffron pistachio, chai, cardamom (or at least to me they do).

So consider yourself invited, and the treat's on me.

You can even have two scoops. I'm going to.

Happy Friday. Be happy, special people.

xoxo

Can I have THREE scoops? Or is that greedy? I'm really, really depressed. Also, I really like ice cream.

aren't you just the sweetest pea ever! i've heard so much about this place for years now & still have never been. let's go next week. :o)

Oh My GOD - are you my alter ego or am I yours? Bombay Bazaar, the best ice cream ever. Their ginger ice cream is one of my favorites but how do you choose among so many delicious flavors? I also love their mango lassi and just wandering through the store, picking up spices and oils (try using mustard seed oil on your next spinach salad). Let's skip our coffee "date" and go right for the ice cream - it's worth going out in this brutal heat for.

You know, for a couple of days I didn't realise that you'd actually updated. I saw the blurb at the top of the page and assumed that you hadn't. Then I scrolled down the page yesterday and duh@me for missing a couple of days of posts *lol*

I'd love to come for ice-cream... it looks wonderful :-)

I want this post! Saffron pistachio? Saffron rose? I need to start saving for a visit!!

Ooohh, ahhh. I have a back ache I need another scoop! : )

PS: Me too Carol! I saw the blurb icon and thought it was the same post I already read, so I kept going. : ) I thought I was the only one.

Tess Kincaid September 5, 2008 at 12:08 PM

Oooooh, thank you!! I'll have two scoops...one of saffron rose and one chai....ummmm. Heavenly. I really needed this. Sigh.

Darling p,

If you came out here, I would buy you ONE of each flavor, including the one called Star War (not Star Wars) which is robin's egg blue and I'm not quite sure what flavor it is.

Please have as many scoops as you like and I will stand on my head to make you smile.

Hi ms. wellspring,

I know, me too. I've been meaning to go here forever and now I think I will be here A LOT to make up for lost time.

Let's go! And then I can show you that cute shop on 16th that I was telling you about.

Hi namastenancy,

Well, I sure hope so! Or else you are my older sister and we've just gotten around to meeting. You will laugh when I tell you about the other photos I took (the piles of bindis on cards, the spices, the colorful posters of gods and goddesses) so I'll save the rest of it for our trip. I think that is a MUCH better idea to go there, and maybe we can go to Udupi Palace first for a dosa. MMMM.

Forget coffee!!!

(Plus it's like 1000 degrees outside. Blech.)

Hi carol,

I know, I'm sorry I confused some of you with my book zeal. I've taken down the offender and hope someday you will come out here for some sunshine and ice cream. We love people with cute British accents. You will be beloved here.

Hi christina,

Don't think for a minute that this shop doesn't have your name written all over it. I didn't even mention all of the flavors because I didn't want to bore people.

You definitely need to make this place a visit, and I'll be sure to take you so you don't get lost...

Hi margie,

I'm not sure who my room mate is but if you mean The Boy, then yes, he's been working out for almost five years. He's a cutie.

Hi willow,

I'm glad you liked the flavors too. I am definitely trying the chai next time (I had cardamom and rose).

I hope you are feeling better!

Hi karey m,

I would give you as many scoops as you could take before becoming lactose intolerant. If you lived near me, we'd have a spectacular time even though we might weigh 300 pounds each.

But we would love each other.

I send you many many hugs. I would bring the ice cream to you and the girlies if I could...I hope you know that.

xoxo

Hi ELK,

Thank you for the blessings and the wishes, and you do the same yourself!

i've been away, but thank you for this post tangobaby. i'll take two generous helpings of the cardamom. mm, how about with caramel sauce? thank you again! as someone else said, youre a sweetpea!

tangobaby September 7, 2008 at 10:51 PM

Hi christie,

I am SO getting the chai next time. I ran out of money so could only get two scoops. How sad.

Hi paris parfait,

I have to say that if I can't have Berthillon amande, this place is the next best thing. And it's a lot cheaper to get there.

I will take you next time.

xoxo

Hi a cuban in london,

You are more than welcome. Just let me know!

Hi lala,

If you are coming all this way, I think I should get you more than one scoop. Or we can go next door and buy henna and do henna tattoos on each other.

How does that sound?

Hi rochambeau!!!

OMG!!! Laku is INCREDIBLE!!! I went insane there. I truly did. Have you seen her hats?! I was going to do a post on her...perhaps on my next visit to do my ice cream research.

And Ti Couz...yes! Love it. You do know what I'm talking about, don't you?! ;-)

Hi robin-bird,

What you see there are rose and cardamom. And pistachio and chai sound like a fantastic double-header and a walk, too! Definitely! Let's go!

;-)

Hi sarah,

I definitely recommend the cardamom and it tastes so good all by itself you may just prefer it that way. I wish I could send you some as a treat, but I guess you'll just have to make it down here someday for yourself.

;-)
xoxo

Rose ice cream. Is there anything more divine in the Universe????

The first time I tried it was a tiny gelatto place in Pasadena (since gone), which has left me pining and yet to find another rose ice cream to match it.

Perhaps this will spark the long-threatened trip to SF....
