Stand by Me (and I'll Stand by You)

This day made heroes and memories that will live in the minds of compassionate people around the world.

Let's use the power of these memories to be our own heroes. To look out for each other.
Not to be afraid.

To shine a light.

I can't help but feel that we have become anesthetized since these periods in history... strange though it may sound, and it's just my little conspiracy theory. But by the mighty power of advertising and the creation of 'want' in us for things that we don't 'need', governments have been successful in sending us to sleep. It appears to me that many were willing back then to step outside of their comfort zones and risk even their lives for their beliefs. For so many now, the risk is that we might lose our LCD TV screen or SUV ;-) (the way of life that enables us to consume more and more of the earths resources)

What do you think?

Hi carol,

I think when your heart is broken and you've been so disillusioned for a long time, you create your own anesthetic just to deal.

Governments, in cahoots with the media and in particular the "news", has done so much to dumb down and distract so many billions of people. And I mean billions.

I don't have a tv for this very reason and have not had one for over a decade. I don't have an SUV (or any car) either, but I find that secondary to the stupor that many people find themselves lulled to sleep in.

The meteoric rise in personal automobiles is not nearly as destructive to a thinking mind than a television is. The thing to remember is that the earth will go on without us. We may consider ourselves of great importance, but in the earth's timeline, and from a cosmic perspective, we are nothing.

Okay, rant ends here.

Hi willow,

You and George said it. Unfortunately, since people have started to walk upright and make weapons, we haven't remembered any history at all, except for grudge matches.

I thought these videos were especially perfect today. Thank you.

Hi christina,

There is no doubt that you illuminate all that you touch, and the hearts of those who meet you. There is a certain house in Milwaukee that must be positively glowing.

;-)

Hi lala,

Merci to you, my friend. I love having your perspective here. I wonder what the founder of your alma mater, Thomas Jefferson, would have made of all of this. He was quite the brilliant scholar AND a revolutionary heart.

I have sent you a little present for your birthday...you should be receiving it in a week, I hope!
