Okay, You Asked For It

Only because you are so good to me am I actually putting a photo of me here so you can see the new me with my Inner Gamine. Normally I would give you a teaser of my right eye and a bit of hair but I know that won't cut it.

This photo was very kindly taken by an accommodating cable car driver on Powell Street this morning, who unfortunately did not capture my best angle, but it's a start. Ugh... I almost can't take this. My face looks like it weighs 500 pounds all by itself. (How does that happen? I might have to take this photo down. Ugh.)

So now you know what my new haircut looks like and you also have proof that I really do live in San Francisco because the cable car is a dead giveaway.

***

Just got back from the Piraro show, where laughter abounded, and then I had a drink with The Boy and a friend at Tosca's called a White Nun (but for some reason I thought it was called a Fuzzy Nun--no matter, it was good) and on that note, I'll bid you a fond adieu.

Nitey-nite.

You look fabulous!! What a great shot. Almost looks like it could be vintage! Your new "do" is so fun. You have such great thick hair! I wish I could wear mine like that. Alas, too thin and straight. Sigh.

You look very French. I too prefer self portraits.

christina September 12, 2008 at 6:28 AM

OMGoodness! You look gorgeous! I love your hair!

Tell me you won't deny me of having this photo in my home, next to my trinket box. : ( This is my sad face in case you don't send it.

I will hopelessly wait by my mailbox until...

; )

your haircut is classy and stunning. and i love that coat. what i found most appealing about this picture is that it is absolutely timeless. you can not give it a date.

Elizabeth Brinton September 12, 2008 at 7:03 AM

Love it! You have a great sense of your own look, and it is timeless. Perfectly put together.

lovely picture. how do you manage to look so retro and so now at the same time?

Mtnhighmama September 12, 2008 at 7:56 AM

Oh!, It's completely fantastic. And look at you so stylish.

You are beautiful. Truly. Never let us hear you say you feel anything but. Truly.

Your timelessness, your smile, the charm with which you look at the photographer....How can you feel anything but lovely?

ModernTanguera September 12, 2008 at 8:56 AM

Gorgeous! You look wonderful, head to toe. I am especially fond of your coat. :)

P September 12, 2008 at 8:59 AM

Oh, you look adorable! And your patterned tights - I want.

studio wellspring September 12, 2008 at 11:49 AM

was this taken in 2008 or 1908? is this a lady raised in silicon valley or raised in paris? i bet if you took a poll 99% would get the facts wrong, but your soul's expressions right. you are beautiful in every way my dear, so no more being shy for the camera. ;o)

Christian Cagigal September 12, 2008 at 11:53 AM

I love the way SF looks on your camera. Oh yes and the new "do" of course. =)

Hi everyone!

You don't know how hard it was to wake up this morning and not delete this post (thinking "what on earth was I thinking last night?" Give me two little drinks and I guess I'm game for anything).

You all are so sweet and complimentary that now I guess I can't hit you up for donations for the Tangobaby's New Grace Kelly Cute Nose Rhinoplasty Fund! Please just tell me you didn't click on the photo to make it bigger. I was trying to keep it as tiny and dark as possible...

Hi willow,

I tell you the truth. It's all about Kat AND Bumble & bumble products. I used to think that was all a bunch of hooey, but I have very fine hair and she makes me look like I have tons of it.

I've learned that having short hair definitely gives the illusion of more and the B&b Thickening Spray is awesome.

Hi senora capone,

Welcome to my blog, and thank you! I actually prefer other people's self portraits and hate my own!

Hi christina,

If I do send you a photo, it's going to be tiny, like a wallet size. But only if you send me one of yourself!

xoxo

Hi sallycat,

You are too sweet...and aren't cable cars cool? I only like riding on them when I can get a seat. I'm not real keen hanging off the edge.

Hi mrs. sarah ott,

It's interesting to see how turning a color photo into a rich black and white changes everything for the better (sometimes). And the coat, oh, the coat! I LOVE that coat and wear it constantly.

It's from H&M last year and it was very inexpensive. Swing coats are such a great style, I think.

And thank you for such a lovely compliment!

Hi elizabeth,

I'm working on the look...it's getting more retro as the years go by. Tailored clothes just don't look good on me.

And thank you! ;-)

Hi julochka,

I think it's the b&w photo that helps. Or maybe it is the hair?!

;-)

Hi mtnhighmama,

If you knew how hard it was to put that photo up, really. I probably need to get some therapy.

But your comment is so loving and kind that maybe I should try to get a grip and stop thinking I have to lose 30 pounds tomorrow.

xoxo

Hi debi,

Oh, Amelie! I LOVE Audrey Tatou's look in that movie. OMG. How I love that film. You just made me swoon with delightful reminiscence. I think you have inspired me to be more devilish in future.

heh heh.

Hi carol,

Honest, you TOTALLY inspired me to be brave and do this photo because you did it and I was so proud of you and thought your photo was so lovely.

SO, thank YOU.

;-)

Hi modern tanguera,

Thank you! And do you even need a coat where you live? lol.

H&M has some similar styles this season (not exactly the same but close) if you want to take a peek. I'm always looking for back up coats.

Hi p!

Coming from you, my fashionista muse, is very flattering indeed! And the tights...H&M strikes again. Sensing a pattern here?

Hi Ms. Wellspring,

I think I should enlist you to take my photo occasionally, because that kind of love will definitely make me not freak out to have my picture taken! Please?

xoxo

Hi christian!

You're still the portrait session that gives me so much inspiration, because you were the first. I LOVE those images of you. Just let me know when you need more...

And let's hang out soon! I will let you know about any other Piraro shows in future.

Relyn Lawson September 12, 2008 at 7:32 PM

Oh! I love your new do. And your clothes! So chic.

Mary-Laure September 12, 2008 at 8:18 PM

I love your hair! Short hair rules.

And it's so funny you got the driver to snap the shot!

Anonymous September 12, 2008 at 10:51 PM

oh for heavens sake you look fantastic! like a flapper for the 21st century! yes like retro amelie... and i am not waiting patiently like christina. i already downloaded the photo for myself :) whoops! i see from your added comments that you will not forgive me for this but too late ;)
XOXOX
let us all love you my dear.

A Cuban In London September 13, 2008 at 4:46 AM

That's a brilliant photo! And yes, the cable car is a giveaway.

Greetings from London.

tangobaby September 13, 2008 at 1:55 PM

Hi relyn,

Thanks!

Hi Mary-Laure,

Actually the driver was very nice. He looked kind of big and gruff but what man can resist a little smile and a wink? Plus, I'm sure he must be asked to take a thousand pictures of tourists!

Hi robin-bird,

ugh...I am just not a fan of this photo. Just promise me you'll print it out small. My eyes look like they're falling into my head. Okay, I'll stop now. I guess I do need therapy!

xoxo

Hi a cuban in london,

I think the cable car turned out a lot better than I did, but thank you all the same...

Vanessa September 14, 2008 at 6:15 AM

Tbaby, you've got style in spades! :-) Loving the whole look.

paris parfait September 14, 2008 at 6:56 AM

And what do they do at Tosca's, now that there's no smoking? I can hardly believe you cut your hair! I think the Louise Brooks bob captures the true essence of the Renaissance Girl Julie. But you look great, no matter how your hair is cut. And the new look is very fetching - terrific photo! I had my hair cut in London - just more shaped and slightly shorter. xoxox

east side bride September 16, 2008 at 5:05 PM

You are also fabulous ;)
