Thinking Girls' Music

I'm sitting on my duff, but I'm working.

Book #2: The Mission. And it's looking gooood.

Right now, I'm listening to Aimee Mann. She's my go-to singer for smart girl music. Her soft voice and quirky lyrics keep me going while I sort through a zillion photos, editing, thinking.

I went through my Indigo Girls phase, my k.d. lang phase, my Natalie Merchant phase, but Aimee's the one I listen to over and over again.

I'm sure you've heard this one before:

What smart girls do you listen to? I'm always open to suggestions.

'What smart girls do you listen to?'

It depends on what you call 'smart'.

In no particular order:

Fiona Apple, Aziza Mustafah Zadeh (soon to make an appearance on my Songs for an Autumn Sunday Morning weekly section), Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, Emmylou Harris, Maria Rita, Tracy Chapman, Alanis... the list goes on...

Greetings from London.

Did we all go through an Indigo Girls phase? Glad that's over. LOVE Aimeee Mann. So underrated. I like Regina Spektor, Sia, Feist, Joni Mitchell, Carla Bruni, among others.

I love Aimee Mann!

Hmm... let's see.

Lauren Hill, Nina Simone, Patti Griffin, Jill Scott, India Arie, Nora Jones, Lena Horn, Adele, Erykah Badu, and Sara Vaughn...

Okay, guys, it looks like I should be expecting some CDs from you in future?!

Hi julochka,

Yes, I remember your Alanis post. I think I od'd on Jagged Little Pill BIG TIME back after the Starter Husband Incident and have not played her music since.

Maybe I need to revisit?

Hi a cuban,

OMG, I had the biggest girl crush on Fiona Apple. I forgot about her I am not familiar with Aziza...I will look for her since you've mentioned her.

Hi p,

Yes, we did. I even have the haircut to prove it.

Ahhh...Carla Bruni is the girl I would run away with. Both The Boy and I have the hots for her. We considered moving to France when she married Sarkozy.

Hi Christina,

I like your list! All you had to say was Sarah Vaughn...

Hi red shoes,

Did you know my little blogging buddy Octavine Illustration did some art work for the Dresden Dolls? I can see where I should be learning more about your faves...

Any chance you might be up for a photo walk this weekend in your hood? Maybe one more photo session will make me finish the book!
